Datuk Captain Mohd Nawawi Awang served the national carrier, Malaysia Airlines, from 1975 to 2015 after a five-year tour of duty in the Royal Malaysian Air Force. Throughout the years in MAS, he progressed through several senior positions in the airline, including the roles of SGM Flight Operations, SGM/EVP External Relations and CEO of MASwings.
He was appointed as one of the management pilots in 1996 and was a member of Malaysia Airlines Management Committee from 2001 to 2014.
His contribution to the aviation industry at national and international levels including as Chairman of Malaysian Aviation Frequency Spectrum for MCMC as part of Malaysian Contingent to World Radio Conferences in Istanbul and Geneva in 2000 and 2003 respectively. He represented MAS in IATA Operations Committee from 2001 to 2004 and was part of DCA Malaysia team at regional Air Traffic Coordination Meetings and ICAO Conferences.
